About Olney, IL - Happy to be your hometown Heating & Air Conditioning Contractor!

Situated in Richland County, Illinois, Olney is a city with an estimated population of more than 8,700 residents. The county seat of its county, it’s known for its fine school system with a high school, middle school, elementary school, a community college and several church-run schools. It also has many service clubs, fraternal organizations, civic organizations and an all-weather airport.

After Richland County was organized in 1841 with the partition of Lawrence and Clay counties, there was some disagreement concerning the location of the county seat. Olney, however, was the logical choice based on its central location and size of land owned. Officially incorporated as a village in 1848, it was named ‘Olney’ by Judge Aaron Shaw to honor his friend Nathan Olney.

Richland County suffered a great deal of turmoil during the American Civil War, as there were sympathizers for both sides. In 1856, both Stephen Douglas and President Lincoln spoke at their own political rallies in Olney. While majority of the citizens rallied their support around the Union, troops had to be stationed in the city as Union deserters found support among local citizens.

The county, though, was predominately pro-Union and approximately 1,700 citizens from Richland County sided with the Union to fight in the American Civil War. Fast forward to today, Olney is recognized as one of the “50 Best Places to Live in Illinois” by It’s also known for its White Squirrel population.

The city is home to many parks that offer picnic areas, fishing and boating facilities, walking paths, basketball courts, baseball fields, swimming as well as playgrounds. Some of the most popular parks include Olney City Park, Rotary Park, Bower Park, Miller’s Grove and Musgrove Park, among various others.

Olney offers a collection of shops ranging from chain retailers to local boutiques. There are also a wide variety of local restaurants located throughout the city. Water, sewerage, garbage and other utility services are provided by the city.  Furthermore, there are over 25 churches serving families residing in Olney.

The city receives 45 inches of rainfall and 12 inches of snowfall per year. With the average high in the summers around 87 degrees, it’s crucial to have a good air conditioning system in place to maintain comfort in your home.
